Gluteus Maximus exercises are a must if you want to look fit and lean.  Having a firm backside can also aid in daily activities.  This one leg squat is one of my favorite exercises both for myself and my clients.  It delivers results in a fast manner and helps to burn tons of calories.  Whether you are at the gym, office, home or on vacation, this exercise can be done anywhere!

 

Fitness Tips

  • Always push from the HEAL of your foot when you are coming up out of the chair.
  • Keep your stomach tight.  This allows you to work your abs along with your butt.  You will also burn more calories and increase your stability.
  • For the advanced:  don’t hold onto the chair.  This will make the exercise harder and more challenging.
  • For The Pros:  add weights to the exercise and don’t hold onto the chair.
    Use this one leg squat at least once to twice a week.  You will begin to see results FAST.  Make sure that the repetitions on each leg are the same.  If you have one leg that is weaker then the other, give it time to catch up.

Turkish Get Up

 

Lie on your back with your legs straight. Hold a kettlebell in your right hand with your arm above your chest. Keeping your elbow locked and the weight above you at all times, stand up. Move your legs and left arm underneath you to push yourself up. Keeping your arm straight, reverse the steps to return to the starting position. Repeat with your right arm (source).

    This exercise looks simple right!?  Getting up and down is something we do everyday.  However, doing it while holding a weight over your head changes the movement pattern and makes you work harder to stabilize and move.  If you don’t think you can do this with a weight, try holding your hand over your head without the kettlebell.

    Weight loss and fitness isn’t complicated but you do have to put some effort into the activities and expend energy to burn calories.
