I saw these sprouted corn tortillas on a healthy cooking show. I was confused as to why “sprouted” was so much better then regular corn tortillas. Through my own research I found that sprouted is (of course) less processed and allows your body to absorb more minerals and vitamins. The “over processed” foods of today are robbed of some of the natural vitamins. They are however fortified. This is what one of the most prominent brands has to say about their Sprouted foods. It’s pretty interesting stuff!
The process of germination changes the composition of grain and seeds in numerous ways. Sprouting increases vitamin content. Sprouting neutralizes phytic acid – a substance present in grains – that inhibits absorption of nutrients and more important Sprouting neutralizes or “predigests” if you will, grains through enzymatic activity. The enzymes produced during our natural sprouting process “in effect” breaks down amino acid protein bonds to promote digestibility of the entire grain.
Sprouted grains = Low Glycemic. Low glycemic is the way to go if you are looking to lose weight. Since sprouted grains are already “pre digested” due to the sprouting process; the break down of the grains doesn’t spike insulin levels as much as processed foods.
Guess I’ll be trying these out in the near future! Changing your processed breads to sprouted is an easy way to stabilize your blood sugar, lower cravings, and help you lose weight without even having to think about it!

I read a very well written piece in this months “Self Magazine” about jillian Michaels. The hard core trainer on Tv’s hit series “The Biggest Loser” actually tells you how hard they REALLY work on that show! Not only does Michales dish on the background of the show, she also gives you insight into what it takes to be one of the biggest trainers in the business.
Here are the highlights from the article….
Jillian reveals that even when the camera aren’t rolling the contestants from the show are working out doing cardio up to 5 hours per day! While the workouts are in progress the 2 trainers are working overtime trying to push all the contestants. Bob and Jillian work 14 hour days, 6 days a week to make that show what it is. Talk about stress!
According to Jillian, there is about 100 hours of shooting for each episode, yet only about 10 minutes of that gets aired on TV. In the end the editors of the show cut and past the clips to make Jillian the villain and Bob the “nice guy.”
Michaels credits her clients success to a combination of emotional and physical changes. She even admits that she gets therapy on a regular basis saying “we have to analyze how our unconscious behaviors create our reality.”
For the whole in depth article check out July’s issue of “Self Magazine.” You can also log onto “Self Magazine’s” website to get clips of Jillian’s “Top Get Fit Tips.”
