New Year’s Resolutions are just around the corner and people are already planning out who and what they want to be in 2015. While a handful of gym goers have been active year round, many have fallen victim to, “Oh I’ll do it after New Year.” It’s easy to push off exercising and eating right if you aren’t on a routine. I’ve found that a new fitness device is keeping even me excited about working out. The Moov tracking device is an excellent way to stay motivated and keep yourself on track! During their pre- launch phase they used a “crowd funding” site to gain capital in only 15 days they had raised 1 million dollars.

What is the Moov fitness tracking device?
Moov is a round electronic device that pops into a wrist and ankle bracelet, much like a watch. It doesn’t have any type of display. Rather, it syncs to an app on your smart phone via bluetooth. Depending upon which type of exercise your doing (running, walking, cycling or even swimming), you would download the specific app for your types of exercise.
How Does the Moov fitness device work ?
Depending upon which exercise you are doing, the device allows you to first pick a difficulty level. Once you have established that, you can then choose a time frame. When you begin, there are 2 minutes for a warm-up followed by the actual workout period. The app talks you through your workout. It gives you cues to speed up, slow down, all while listening to your favorite music. The BEST thing about this device is that it corrects your form. It senses improper strokes (swimming), how hard your hitting the ground (running and walking) and if your slouching or leaning too far forward.
I have tried many fitness devices and not one has actually fixed my form in efforts to prevent incorrect movement patterns! While that may not seem like a big deal, to a personal trainer that’s HUGE. Every year I have people come to me that have injured themselves while trying to get in shape. Without a second pair of eyes to watch your exercises, injury can be a big factor !

Does the Moov fitness device tell you how many calories you are burning?
YES! It shows you at the end and during your workout routine. Of course this is based on your movement and based on your height and weight. All very important factors. I have noticed that it’s probably one of the most accurate. Since I wore the bodybugg for over 7 years I am familiar with how much each exercise burns.
Are there and any draw backs to the Moov ?
The only one that I can find is that it doesn’t show you how many calories you burn all day long. However, I think that in the future the company will release a new “daily” app that allows you to use the device all day long and not just when you are working out.
What I love about this Fitness Device
- It’s easy to use with the apps
- I can see my workouts while I’m doing them via my iphone screen
- I can listen to my music while using the app. The voice on the moov turns my music downs while she talks but I can still hear it in the background.
- It fixes my form as I run or walk. I have had better stride patterns, more consistent runs and MUCH better form, even though I just started running again.
- The band is made of rubber so it doesn’t slide around on my ankle and wrist as I run.
- The variety of apps for the types of exercises allows it to go with almost every type of exercise from kickboxing, to swimming, to running, and cycling.
- It’s water resistant. To date, this is the only fitness device that can actually go in water.
- Since the fitness device talks to you as you exercise it’s motivation, distracting and fun. Similar to how people can play video games for hours, the moov is like your own game while your burning calories.
What’s wrong with other fitness tracking devices?
While I love all devices that get you up and going, I have found about half of them to be pretty inaccurate! Some of them have faulty systems in place, which means they are telling the user that they are burning more calories then they really are! In turn, the user eats more calories and gets horrible results 🙁 Make sure that if you are using the device to lose weight, pick one that has amazing reviews from both consumers and fitness professionals.
I can’t wait to see what moov comes out with next! This company is releasing more and more exercise and fitness apps to go with their device every couple of months.
