We’ve all heard about credit card debit, but there’s also sleep debt. It’s as bad as credit card debit, but unlike a credit score, with sleep debt your body will crash.
I love sleeping. It’s probably on my top 5 favorite things to do. I’m approaching my 30’s as we speak. Regardless, sleep is good for you! Lack of sleep can also be causing you to gain weight. Eek, no!
Think about it. When you’re tried at work, you’re more inclined to reach for a cup of coffee or 3 and then you might make the poor choice of reaching for a doughnut for that extra spike in energy(even though sugar doesn’t give you more energy, that’s a myth, that I’ll uncover at a later time). Then you’re driving home from work now crashing from all the caffeine so you decide to pick up some take out because you’re too tired to make dinner. As soon as you know it, you’ve now done this 3 times in a week and all the while skipping out on the gym due to your fatigue/sleep deprivation.
ALSO, did you know that if you don’t get enough sleep or good sleep then your metabolism won’t function properly. It’s due to the hormone Leptin. That hormone tells you to stop eating, but when you’re sleep deprived that hormone is not released as much, but it’s evil twin is released more, Breus. Breus is the hormone that tells you to eat. So what happens is your body is told, “Go to town on some food!”. Scary right?!
So what do you do?! I am an expert in sleeping and I recently made some sleeping revelations. So listen up!
Fit Tip #1: Wear a sleeping mask. Seriously, I know what you’re thinking. I too thought a sleeping mask was too high maintenance, but I was forced to used one, well more like my black shirt as a make shift eye mask, but it worked! Get the sleeping mask, it works better than any shirt.
Fit Tip #2: My trainer recently told me to not eat 3 hours before bed. It seemed impossible, but it’s actually really easy and I sleep so much better. Sleep is improved when your body isn’t processing food during the process. So stop eating. Just stop eating in general, you’ll get so much skinnier. I kid…sort of.
So tonight, when you go to sleep, think of me and you won’t be counting sheep.
Sleepy,
Bianca
