It’s hard to deny that our ancestors may have known more about proper nutrition then we currently do today. It may not be a coincidence that I am allergic to almost everything that is “man made.” The Egyptians didn’t eat over processed foods and the Norwegians didn’t eat farmed fish. SO, what makes us think that eating these kinds of foods are the best way to nourish our bodies? This new diet helps people rediscover their true roots by going back to the primal days of the caveman. Here is the basis of the diet compliments of “The Fitness Black Book.”
A Quick Summary of the Paleo Diet
The paleo diet is based around quality sources of protein and healthy fats. The diet consists of meat, fish, eggs, nuts, roots, fruits and vegetation. Dairy, grains, gluten, refined sugar, trans fats, and hydrogenated fats are to be avoided. This is a low-carb diet focused on the way we ate before the agricultural era….the way we ate when we were “hunters and gatherers”.
Paleo and Primal Eaters Prefer Free Range and Organic Food
We all know that this is the way to go when it comes to eating fresh food. My girlfriend has recently turned me on to trying to go organic whenever possible. I must say that it makes a difference in the way I feel. It tastes better as well. All those steroids and chemicals do bad things to the body. One of the side effects of pesticides is an increase in estrogen which leads to stubborn body fat (source).
This way of eating isn’t anything new to the bodybuilding community. In a sense, this is another version of “Eating Clean.” However, for most, this type of eating almost completely eliminates their entire diet!!!
If you find yourself eating all processes, “quick” foods that are packed with hormones and pesticides; chances are it will catch up to you at some point in your life (if it hasn’t already). Eating a “Clean,” Cave Man” diet will lean you up in a matter of weeks! I do this pretty consistently; it is the only way to keep excess body fat away, and keep you energetic.
