Every Bite Matters
There is a popular belief out there that if you eat healthy the majority of the time you are allowed to have a cheat day. A cheat day is for people who are dieting and give themselves a day to eat whatever they want. For most people, cheat days are a safe haven, a relaxing day, a day where “I get to eat whatever I want.” Some people go for burgers and fries, some for desserts, some for alcohol, and sadly enough some for all of them combined.
Lets look at some simple numbers and demonstrate how poor of a decision of having a cheat day can be.
Calories in 1 lb = 3,500 Average bite typically contains 40-80 calories.
Think about this…how many times have you finished your plate? Taken that last bite? Said to yourself “but I don’t like to waste food?”
Have you ever found yourself sharing just a bite with a friend? Tried something off of someone else’s plate? What about sneaking those pieces of candy or chocolate in the afternoon for a little jolt of energy?
Lets use 50 calories per bite for easy number crunching. And 3 carefree bites per day: One with lunch, late afternoon snack, and dinner.
3 carefree bites x 50 calories = 150 calories a day
70 carefree bites = 3,500 calories = 1 lb
Eat like this and you will gain 1 lb every 23 days, 4 lbs in 3 months, and 16 lbs a year.
Now, lets think about this. Who are you really cheating? You are only cheating yourself. You are the only one in control of what goes and doesn’t go into your mouth.
Every bite matters!!!
Do not work so hard only to sabotage yourself later. No more sharing food, don’t bring people down with you instead lift them up. Build up some good karma and wrap up your leftovers and give to the homeless guy on the corner. Do that extra rep, that extra set, that extra mile and be amazed at what happens to your body.
With you on every step of your journey,
