Life creates posture distortions. Whether you have a desk job, or a physical job; we are all still prone to posture problems. You can correct muscle imbalances over time but I find it’s actually easier to join a yoga class. Between classes foam roll and stretch on your own, but devote at least 1-2 hours per week doing yoga to see faster results.
Personally, I used to hate yoga. I thought it was too slow and lacked the ability to burn calories and build muscles. It wasn’t until I took a more advanced class that I began to realize how beneficial it could be! My problem areas are my chest, upper back and hip flexors being overly tight. These can lead to some undesirable posture problems such as a rounded back, and pelvic tilt (causing a leaned forward appearance).
After leaving yoga class I feel an increase in circulation, an overall calm and refreshed feeling. With intense yoga sessions I have to drink tons of water after class to flush the toxins from my body that have been pushed out during the stretching session. It only took one class to make me realize that this was something I needed to add to my workout routine!
You can do all the exercising in the world, but if your posture is bad you will lack that lean, tall, confident look. Take care of your body and it will take care of you!
Here are some fun poses for you to practice at home, in the gym, or at your desk!
