It’s good to see that huge companies like Nike are getting involved in “Eco Friendly” programs. This is an amazing idea for the world, the fitness industry, as well as a genius marketing strategy!
Nike’s Reuse A Shoe program, which basically collects used sneakers, grinds them up and uses those little bits to build tracks and playgrounds. (You know that springy feel? That’s from the shoes!) It’s the perfect charitable solution if you’re done with your sneaks and they’re too worn for others to wear.
Check out the site’s map to find a location to donate shoes. They take any brand of sneakers! You can also see spots with a Nike Grind (that’s what they call the ground-up shoe material) surface. Their Web site is really cool and interactive, too, with tons of information about the program (source).
When your shoes get too old to wear and too old for others, think of this article and give back to the community the way Nike is doing for others!
