It appears that everything you can make into milk; you can make into ice cream. Makes sense right?? However, this doesn’t necessarily mean it tastes good or is good for you. If you suffer from allergies, then this might be a great alternative to dairy. Here is what “Healthy Bites” has to say about this new twist on an old treat.
Seven out of eight people in the office liked it! However, a few people who liked it did note that it tasted more like sorbet than ice cream.
So how could swapping out dairy for hemp help your diet? Here’s a chart comparing Tempt’s take on coffee ice cream to the more traditional Breyer’s Natural coffee ice cream:
As you can see, they’re pretty much the same when it comes to calories. The thing that struck me was the difference in fat! At first glance it might look the same – 7 grams per half cup. But a closer look reveals that, in the traditional ice cream, over half of that fat is saturated, compared to the hemp dessert, which contains just 1 gram of sat fat. The rest is the heart-healthy unsaturated fats, like Omega-3s, that fill you up without clogging your arteries.
Well, I will have to say that the idea of NOT clogging my arteries is appealing. I guess when it comes to ice cream that is the furthest thing from my mind. I am usually looking at calories, fat, and carbs. This ice cream might be worth trying.
