If You’re Gonna Do It …..
BAJA ENSALADA
This simple salad with grilled chicken or steak has less then 600 calories. You can choose to keep the cheese or omit it ( I omit it) and the added bit of tortilla chips gives it a crunch without excessive amounts of fat. It does come with a dressing but I don’t recommend using the whole thing. If you have to, use half, then while at the salsa bar pick up some pico de gilo, and some of the mango salsa. Add that as topping and y0u have a low fat, low calorie, low carb meal that’s also gluten free.
This salad also topped the charts on the “Cooking Light” website as one of the best fast foods salads you could get!
“Skip the full-fat dressing and opt for the fat-free salsa verde and you’ll walk away with only 325 calories and 2 grams of saturated fat (source).”
CHICKEN OR STEAK SOFT TACOS
Depending upon your calorie intake for the day, you could have a couple of tacos easily while on the go. I recommend omitting the cheese because it’s not necessary nor is it a good use of calories. Instead, replace it with some of the great salsa options they have at the salsa bar. If you want to decrease the calories and carbs even further, try taking off one of the 2 corn tortillas. You don’t really need 2 unless the taco is falling apart.
* Mix and match if you like! You can get really crazy and mix and match your tacos. All 3 versions (steak, chicken, and fish) are pretty lean. Just make sure you shy away from added avocado (unless your in need of the fat and calories) and also from added sauces.
* NOTE: The calories listed below are for the original baja soft taco with corn tortillas. This one comes with your choice of salsa and without cheese. The other version is the American taco and it’s listed with more calories and fat, avoid that one if possible.
