Whoa! I have heard of bad sportsmanship but this one may keep Serena Williams from entering future US Open tournaments. During her recent match against Samantha Stosur in New York, Williams had yet another outburst at an umpire. Serena is currently on probation for a similar act against an umpire during a previous match.

Here’s what was said during the match on Sunday at the US Open.
“If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way, because you’re out of control… You’re totally out of control, you’re a hater, and you’re unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow… What a loser. We’re in America last I checked. Can I get a water or am I gonna get violated for a water? Really, don’t even look at me! I promise you, don’t look at me, cause I am not the one. Don’t look my way.”
After the match ….
“I don’t even remember what I said, it was just so intense out there.I don’t know. I was just in the zone. I think everyone, when they play, they kind of zone out kinda thing. I don’t know, I’ll see it later, I’m sure (source).”
The tournament ref said that Williams is under investigation for this episode. It could result in a fine, suspension, or a ban from future tournaments.
These is a thin line between intensity of the game and uncontrolled emotions. In this case, it wasn’t just one line outrage, it was a whole conversation that also included a threat. SO NOT COOL! Good sportsmanship is an important part of life, make sure you’re making the effort to be a good sport in your own life!
