Our friends over at Fit Celeb.com keep us informed of some of the most recent news. Now, there may be a new tax emerging on sports drinks and soda. Could this new tax help Americans chose other ways to quench their thirst, or will they take the hit and pay the extra money?
Yup, you may soon be paying extra taxes on soda, certain fruit drinks, energy drinks, sports drinks, and ready-to-go teas according to reports in The Wall Street Journal. The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a Washington-based watchdog group that pressures food companies to make healthier products, is planning to propose a federal excise tax on these sort of drinks. Michael Jacobson, executive director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, says,
“Soda is clearly one of the most harmful products in the food supply, and it’s something government should discourage the consumption of.”
