We’ve all been there, experienced it, suffered through it. It’s an inevitable part of the journey: the infamous weight loss plateau. You’re doing great, you’re consistent with your workouts, logging your food, eating clean and balanced, the weight is dropping, then it’s like suddenly someone hit freeze frame. Everything stops, the only way the scale is going is up, you start to panic, scrambling to figure out what’s wrong, increase your workouts, cut your calories and, unbeknownst to you, successfully solidify the foundation for the plateau.
While most plateaus end on their own in about two to three weeks, there are ways to speed up the process. Just ask yourself a few of these questions: Am I tracking my calories right? Has my body gotten used to the workouts? Is it time to mix things up? Are my hormones in check? Am I trying to lose the last 5-10 lbs vanity pounds? Creating too big a deficit when trying to lose the last few pounds will actually have the exact opposite effect. Your body will switch into starvation mode, your metabolism will slow down, and will hold on to every bit of food for dear life, storing it for future energy use, making your frustration and pant sizes grow.
The Secret to Breaking a Weight loss Plateau …..
Eat more! Now before you roll your eyes at me think about the logic. You eat less, your body will panic and store it, you eat more, it will relax and release. Try introducing one high calorie day a week, about 10% more than you’d normally eat. Now mind you we’re still taking quality food. 10% junk food will send a whole different message to your body. Chose wisely, listen to your body, use these fitness tips and you will break through that plateau in no time!

A few years ago I completely changed my life, dropped over 75lbs. I currently hold certifications through ACSM(PT), NASM(corrective X) and am a certified Bodyshred instructor. I became a trainer to help people be happy, healthy and the best self they can be. I know how great I feel now. I had some great motivators and mentors, it is now my turn to give back and to pay it forward. http://www.ideafit.com/
