Thinspiration is two words put together to create a simular but different meaning. While sifting through the web It was clear that there had already been quit a bit of an uproar. Not too long ago, Instagram banned thinspo from its content saying
Instagram will no longer allow accounts, images or hashtags “dedicated to glorifying, promoting, or encouraging self-harm.” The decision follows similar proclamations from other social networking sites, such asPinterest and Tumblr (source).
Like a gang of kids without a hangout, the group of thinspiration viewers migrated when they were kicked out of their usual hang outs. It didn’t seem to stop them or slow them down, it was just a small glitch in their usual “fix” for new content to add to their collection.
Our take on thinspro / thinspiration is to avoid it. Throw it out the window, and find other ways to motivate yourself. More importantly keep it away from your middle school girls, and high school kids. This kind of imagery is even more damaging to women going through their teens. These images have the ability to magnify self hatred for one’s own body and create unattainable bodies that look unnatural.
If you know some one who’s a slave to thinspo, send them to our site! We do our best to find images that inspire without giving negative images. Fitness tips like these should be spread all over the web. Join the movement, and get involved in creating HEALTHY fitness.
