Just when you think you’ve got a handle on all this weight loss and the healthy food concepts, along comes this loaded statement: “There are various types of food that are healthy for you but will still hinder your weight loss goals.” I’m not talking about things like chips or donuts these things are neither good for you nor will they allow you to lose weight. These 5 misleading “health” foods could be keeping you from losing those extra LBs !
5 Misleading Health Foods
1.) Granola
I’m talking about things you thought sounded healthy like granola for instance. Is it the thought of hiking and eating a granola bar that makes us think they are helpful in weight loss? Perhaps, but I do know they are filled with sugary processed foods that will not help you when trying to lose weight.
2.) Instant Oatmeal
It’s suggested you go for non instant oatmeal to keep you full and add real fruit to sweeten the taste. Processed “Quick” oats breakdown fast in the body and turn to sugar (glucose) in the blood stream much quicker. This can be compared to eating white bread.
3.) Whole Grain Bread
Another confusing theme that’s been drilled into dieters heads is eating whole grain bread instead of white bread. Neither type of bread is great for weight loss. You need carbohydrates in your diet but choosing unprocessed carbs is the best choice. These are legumes, fruits, and whole grains. Not baked bread.
4.) Juice
Here is another one: Juice. It comes from a fruit, a complex carbohydrate what could be the problem? Eating fruit and drinking juice are two very different things in the weight loss world. Eating a fruit you get all the fiber. With juice you get none of the fiber, and most of the time added sugar is put in the “natural flavors”. For this reason eat your fruit but don’t drink your juice.
5.) Organic
Finally, a buzz word going around is “organic”. Organic is great in that no chemicals were involved in the making of the product and in no way genetically modified. This does not in anyway mean great for losing weight. Organic ice cream will pack on the pounds just the same as regular iced cream. Although choosing organic may stop you from growing a third arm but thats a whole different topic.
The point to remember is there’s a lot of weight loss hype in food, but if you stick with fresh vegetables, lean protein, and complex carbohydrates you wont be fooled. If you know someone who eats ALL these foods or even half of them, forward them this article and share the fitness love : ) Sharing is caring.
