Many people spend hundreds of dollars on the skin on their face. Skin lotions, washes, and toners are a billion dollar market but many people do very little for the skin on the rest of their body. Juice cleanses are becoming common place, while one of the largest organs, your skin, can be detoxed daily for no money at all! Skin brushing has been around for years and allows you to detox each day with little effort and very little money out of your pocket. Here are some of the benefits of skin brushing.
Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing
Your skin acts as a barrier between you and the outside world. It’s a complex system made up of nerves, cells, and glads that act to protect you. Not only that, your skin also creates antibacterial properties to ward off disease and protect your inner organs.
The skin is also a vessel for detoxifying your body much like your kidneys and liver. If your skin is full of layers of dead skin cells and toxic properties, it’s unable to detox your body effectively.
Dry skin brushing is the solution to this toxic layer of dead skin cells. Brushing also aids the lymph nodes in the body which help to shuttle toxins out. Dry skin brushing also has several other benefits.
1.) Stimulate – Aid your Lymphatic System
The main role of the lymphatic system is to remove waste from the body on a cellular level. The lymph system is made up of miles and miles of small tubes that pull the waste from the cells and shuttle it to the blood stream. From the blood stream, the waste is then filtered out of the body. Skin brushing stimulates this system which speeds up and enables the lymph system to do it’s job more efficiently.
2.) Increase Circulation
When you use dry brushing on your skin it increases circulation, further removing waste faster.
3.) Skin Brushing Reduces Cellulite
I was once told by a close friend that CHER knew how important circulation was for the reduction of cellulite so she had frequent massages. She had them rub all of her problem areas to keep the cellulite away. Smart lady! In the same way, dry skin brushing not only increases circulation it can also break up hard deposits of fat. This then allows the fat to lay in a more distributed fashion. Since cellulite has a orange peel look, brushing will break up the dimples.
Dry brushing also breaks up toxins in the skin that contribute to the break down of the connective tissues. Break down of this tissue is a major factor in cellulite.
The Huffington Post Had this to say about skin brushing
“When we’d heard dry skin brushing was an effective method for reducing cellulite, we knew we had to include it in our anti-cellulite road test. Sure enough, it was indeed one of the more successful ways to smooth away less-than-perfect spots on your legs.”
4.) Decrease Bloating, Increase Digestion and Kidney Function
Naturopaths use skin brushing as a way to massage the lymph nodes to decrease water retention, and toxins. Of course, skin brushings immediate affects are softer skin, it also contributes to better kidney function and improved digestion.
While I don’t personally do skin brushing at this moment, it’s time to start!! After reading all of the research on this technique, it’s obvious that it’s something I need to be doing for my health and for the overall look and feel of my body. No one wants dead skin cells slowing their detoxing process! Time to get brushing!
