Standardized diets are a thing from the past. Whether it’s the south beach diet, Atkins, Jenny Craig, or weight watchers, one diet for all body types are becoming obsolete. New research revealed in “Fitness Rx,” shows that you know your body best!
A new study from Stanford University showed that genes determine which diet works best for you. 39 % of people responded to low fat diets, 45% responded to low carb diets, and 16 percent must limit both fat and carbs. In addition, people on the CORRECT diet for their genes lost 5 % of their body weight. While people on diets that aren’t correct for their body lost only 2.3%.
I know that some diets actually put you through a questionaire that zones in on what type of diet will work best for your body type. These questions focus on how you feel when you eat certain foods, what type of foods you crave, and how level your blood sugar stays while eating these foods.
So, what do you do if you don’t have a fitness professional in your family or a questionnaire to fill out??? PAY ATTENTION! How do you feel when you consume high amounts of carbs?? Do you feel sluggish and tired? If you do then that is your cue to have a low carb – moderate carb diet. Do high fat foods send you running to the bathroom and bogged down? Then you need a low fat diet. If you have moderate reactions to both then you need keep both of them in the low range. Knowing what foods make you feel the best is the key to staying lean and losing weight. There is no one gene pool that’s better then another, sometimes knowing your reactions is just as beneficial as having your own nutritionist.
