Are Your Electronics Keeping You Awake and Making You Fat

By now we ALL know that sleep is the magic ingredient to body fat loss.   If you missed that post click here.   If you ARE getting sleep but you are doing the very typical … sleep with my phone next to my head thing, then you AREN’T getting good sleep.  That’s right, electronics can really mess up how deeply you sleep.   Deep sleep is where your body releases all of the good hormones such as human growth hormone.  Human Growth Hormone regulates muscle, metabolism and it keeps you looking young, if you mess that up you could be doomed!!

Is Your Laptop and iPad Keeping You Awake ?

 

Artificial light too close to bedtime simulates the light of the sun and ruins your sleeping patterns.   There’s  concern that these gadgets can actually fool your brain into thinking it’s day time.

“And I think more importantly, it could also be sufficient to affect your circadian rhythm. This is the clock in your brain that determines when you sleep and when you wake up .”

 

Fit Tip – Wearing Orange lenses at night while reading your ipad or doing computer will actually make your circadian rhythms immune to the glowing affects.  A free, downloadable program called F.lux will automatically adjust the hues on your computer screen to eliminate blues when the sun starts setting — and then replace them when it rises again (source).

 

Move Your Electronics Away From You

 

Do you sleep with your iphone next to your head??   50% of America does!!    Get an extension cord and move all electrics away from your body.

If you have lights showing on your cable box or alarm clock, cover them.

If you have light coming through your window then get black out shades.

Can’t make all this happen??   Get an eye mask!   That is the simplest way to take car of a lot of these things.

DO NOT sleep with the TV on

  • Unwind before bedtime. Have a transition period, about 15 to 30 minutes, of technology-free time before you go into your bedroom for sleep.
  • Shut down your bedroom. Make where you sleep an electronic-free zone. According to AOL’s third annual “Email Addiction” survey, more than 40% of 4,000 respondents have checked email in the middle of the night. Put caps over your electric outlets to discourage plugging in for a recharge (source).

 

Now that you’ve read all about electronics and your sleep, will you be adjusting your habits??    Sleep is a huge component of weight loss, and a healthy life style.   Make your dedication to you sleeping habits match those of your exercise habits.
