Does Pressure Make You Thin? Kirstie Alley Thinks So..

Most people would say the exact opposite!  The majority of people tend to eat under pressure.  However, I do know some that are on the other end of the spectrum.  Oprah and Kirstie Alley sat down (once again) to discuss weight and the controversy of being thin while in the spot light.  Healthy Hollywood.com gives us the scoop in some quick quotes.

When you’re a spokesperson for a weight loss company … somebody weighs you every week. It’s pressure but it’s good pressure. I do better if I have some pressure on me. When I didn’t have that anymore … I just said, ‘I’m going to cut myself some slack.‘ Big mistake,” Kirstie told Oprah.

Kirstie admitted that after leaving her position with Jenny Craig, she didn’t weigh herself or work out for a year and a half. She slowly adopted old habits, as a reward for reaching her weight loss goal, and moved her exercise machines out of sight. The result? She put the weight back on, plus an additional ten pounds. When Kirstie saw Oprah talk candidly about falling off her own weight loss wagon, she decided to make an appearance on Oprah’s show to talk about her struggle.

According to Kirstie, one positive aspect of her experience has been her decision to quit smoking.  She told Oprah, “When I was on [your show] and fat, you said, ‘You really have to stop smoking, because you can’t be fat and smoke. So I haven’t smoked since. … I think that this should be celebrated.”

Kirstie’s new weight loss plan has her in shape in six months.

“By November, I have to look ripped,” she said.

It takes a lot of guts to go on tv and admits your faults; so I applaud Kirstie.  When people “own up” to things that have gone wrong in their lives, it’s always best to learn something from others experiences.  In this case, maybe people should learn that staying accountable (even if it’s to yourself) helps people change in all aspect of their life.  Make sure you are doing your part to be accountable for your health.
