In today’s hustle and bustle we sneak meals in while driving, working, walking and watching T.V. The old 60’s Norman Rockwell Picture of eating around the table with your family has slowly dissolved. Very few people eat at the table (except on special occasions) and even fewer eat throughout the day. With all this constant rushing we eat at a rapid pace. This not only causes indigestion, heart burn and gas, it could also be a main contributor to weight gain.
Past research shows that eating fast by doesn’t allow our brain to register that we are full. The average American can gulp down a meal in less then 10 minutes! Previous studies show that it takes 20 mins for our brain chemistry to kick in and tell us to STOP eating. This Fast Food Nation can eat a tramendous amount of food in 20 minutes.
OUR SOLUTION TO FEELING FULL:
Sit at the table or at your living room coffee table (if you must). Using A timer either on your watch or from the kitchen. Set the timer for 20 minutes and begin to eat. Take you time, drink water in between bites, set your fork down etc. Try to drag your meal out until the timer hits 20 minutes. To make this trick work even better, use a small plate and a small portion of food. Once the timer goes off give yourself about 10 minutes to decided if you need something more to eat. Chances are you won’t!!! This little fit tip could be the start of losing weight and getting lean this new year.
* Note: If you don’t have a timer or your prefer not to set one. Use your Tv show or DVR to calculate the time that has passed. It’s not as accurate but it will work for people who don’t want to bother with the timer.
Weight loss is more of a science then people think. Maybe our grandmother knew more then we realized when she told us to “go sit down at the table.” Timing is everything, and it could mean everything to your health.
