If you ever watched your calorie burning on a cardio machine; you will find that it’s oddly inaccurate. The calories that each individual burns are percise only to that particle person. So, why wouldn’t you use a device to track your own individual calorie burning??? Now there is a new device called the “Fitbit.” This neat little device gets clipped to your pants or fastened to a watch to help track your motion, calorie burning, and even your sleeping patterns!
The Fitbit Tracker contains a motion sensor like the ones found in the Nintendo Wii. The Tracker senses your motion in three dimensions and converts this into useful information about your daily activities. The Tracker measures the intensity and duration of your physical activities, calories burned, steps taken, distance traveled, how long it took you to fall asleep, the number of times you woke up throughout the night and how long you were actually asleep vs. just lying in bed. You can wear the Tracker loosely in your pocket or clipped to your clothing, even bras (source).
Although this device is an excellent motivator; I am still partial to my little “bodybugg.” The body bugg seems to be a better evaluator of “true” calorie burning. However, this device costs less and can give you a pretty good idea overall.
