Keep That Phone Out Of Your BRA – Cell Phones and Breast Cancer

May 21, 2014 by Adria Ali Leave a Comment

While at the gym this morning, I looked around the weight room and made note of 5 women lifting weights.   I then started counting how many of them were doing this…..

cell phones and breast cancer

I was shocked to see that 3 out of the 5 women in there had placed their cell phones in their sports bra!    After doing a brief google search between sets, I decided it MUST be on the site because women don’t know the dangers or cell phones and breast cancer.    Lets be real, we’ve all done this from time to time when we lacked extra hands, but there’s a difference between a short spirt (5 mins)  and a one, to two,  hour long workout.

Are Cell Phone Causing Breast Cancer??

Keep in mind that cell phones come with warnings.  Yet, these warnings based on radiation, are buried and intertwined with different topics in you manuals.

The iPhone 4 manual, for example, says that if the phone is kept in the pocket, “FCC guidelines for safe exposure can be exceeded,” and that “users are responsible for protecting themselves.”  YES !

So what do you do if you don’t want to disconnect but you want to keep yourself safe??   It’s recommend that ear pieces and head phones are used which will allow you to keep the phone away from your head and further from your body.    It’s also a big “no, no” to keep you cell phone in close proximity to your chest ( in your bra).

Buying an arm band for when you work out could be a better option or having some sort of packet to place the phone in.

Case Study – How This Healthy Active Mom Contracted Breast Cancer From Her Cell Phone

It’s too late for Andrea X, a young active mother of three from Southern California. For more than six years, this vegetarian and runner drove her children everywhere, with her cell phone tucked snugly into her sports bra. She used her hands-free headset and was on the phone for four to five hours a day. Often her chest or ear would redden, but she thought little of it. This spring she developed a malignant tumor right where her phone had sat on her breast. No one in her family has ever had breast cancer.

Could all this be a coincidence? Of course. But her doctor, and the physicians of four other women under the age of 40 with similar stories, are deeply concerned that cell phones can cause cancer in women who store them on their torsos  (source).

While there is evidence in both directions for cell phones and breast cancer, if I could possibly avoid cancer with a simple change in my phone location, then I’m going to move it!     The news clip mentioned above had some very touching stories and made some great points.   Share this article with your family, friends and loved ones!   If this article prevents more deaths then it was worth it!

If you’re a pinner or a facebooker… use this image to spread the word!
