If you are like most people; you hate excess fat around your mid section. We go through torturous diets, hard workout routines, and even wear things under our clothes to hid our “love handles.” Regardless of their name, no one ever loves having this part of their body. Now research is showing that these excess pockets of fat around our mid section could actually be GOOD for 0ur health.
Researchers have long known that fat that collects in the abdomen, which is also known as visceral fat, can raise a person’s risk of diabetes and heart disease, while people with pear-shaped bodies, with fat deposits in the buttocks and hips, are less prone to these disorders.
Now it turns out that subcutaneous fat, fat found just under the skin, may be actively protecting people from metabolic disease. So as you don your bathing suit this summer, take some pride in knowing that your bit of extra pudge around your bum and hips is actually working for your health. That is news I can celebrate (source)!
This doesn’t mean you can go out and eat a dozen donuts after reading this article. However, you should make sure that you are getting enough “healthy” fat in your diet to protect your body from disease and metabolic disease.
