The world got a taste of what fitness is really about when P90x was originally released. Now this “ground breaking” routine has come out with P90X2! If you loved the first set (which sold over 45 million DVDS), then we know you are going to love the second. The new edition is set to be released around Christmas of 2011, however, Beachbody is accepting pre-orders!

“P90X2 is the most extreme and sophisticated workout program Beachbody has ever developed. Two years of research and development, along with input from some of the most-qualified fitness experts in the world has resulted in a program that takes P90X customers to a level previously reserved for elite athletes,” said Carl Daikeler, Chief Executive Officer, Beachbody, LLC. “P90X2 was designed to take someone with a solid base of fitness, and vault them into a level of agility, core strength, and power they would never imagine they could achieve, whether in 90 days or nine years. This is truly a world-class program.”
Like its predecessor, P90X2 continues the journey into the scientific-exercise principles of periodization or “muscle confusion” that P90X introduced to the masses. However, P90X2 presents a fresh array of challenges with new exercises that create rapid improvement in balance, agility, core strength and athleticism.
In addition to the proven virtues of “muscle confusion,” P90X2 introduces a training method known as “Post-Activation Potentiation” (P.A.P.), introduced to Beachbody by the Chair of its Scientific Advisory Board, Harvard-trained physician, Dr. Marcus Elliot. Elliot is Founder of Peak Performance Project (P3) – an athletic-training
facility where some of the world’s foremost athletes are trained. Elliot and his staff have been refining P.A.P. methodology over the past decade, yielding significant performance improvements for professional athletes while significantly reducing injury rates. P.A.P is based on a unique combination of traditional resistance training and total-body plyometrics. When performed in a specific cadence, P.A.P. trains muscles to fire more efficiently, significantly increasing explosive strength. Through P90X2’s devoted P.A.P. training regimen, consumers will jump higher, run faster and generally move more efficiently. P.A.P. represents functional training at its cutting edge.
Also unique to P90X2 is the five-day weekly program it offers, in comparison to the six-day weekly regimen offered by P90X. This is due to the increased intensity of the new program. As the intensity of P90X2 increases, training volume must decrease to allow for increased recovery time – essential for obtaining optimal results from the more-intensive program.
Available for $119.85, P90X2 includes a complete 90-day program including 12 routines and an overview prep session on 13 DVDs or, for the first time ever, all 12 routines on four Blu-ray discs. Included with the program is a highly customizable fitness guide that allows consumers to adjust the length of the program’s phases according to their specific fitness needs, as well as a nutrition guide that includes a more traditional high-performance diet, plus grain-free and vegan options. P90X2’s 12 cutting-edge workouts include X2 Core, Plyocide, X2 Recovery + Mobility, X2 Total Body, X2 Yoga, X2 Balance + Power, Chest + Back + Balance, X2 Shoulders + Arms, Base + Back, P.A.P. L
ower, P.A.P. Upper and X2 Ab Ripper.
P90X2 marks a new chapter for Beachbody, poised to continue its dominance of the personal-fitness industry, during which it has generated over $400 million in annual sales thanks to its successful programs, including P90X, Insanity® and TurboFire® among others. P90X2, however, marks the company’s most-aggressive push into elite functional and performance training methodology, typically reserved for elite athletes, yet designed for the more mainstream active consumer. Because of its unique ability to package these more-sophisticated exercise principles in a manner that’s easily accessible for mainstream consumers, P90X2 will continue to set the standard for consumer fitness programs for years to come (source).
While I already know most of these moves from my personal training career the general public doesn’t. From a trainers stand point, make sure that you are physically ready to do this series. If you aren’t then it’s time your started doing the original P90X to get in shape for the new one! Break your DVDs out and “keep pushing play!!”
