Pharmaca Health and Weight Loss Challenge – Part 2

If you’ve been following the site you’ll know that both me and my mom are participating in the Pharmaca health and weight loss challenge.  If you missed the first article, you can read it here.  The most important thing about the Pharmaca health sessions is that they address what YOU feel you want help with.  My personal goals are for “leaning up” and dropping some extra inches.   My mom’s goal is to improve her horrible stress levels and get better sleep, while becoming more active.   In both cases these sessions have really helped us become more motivated!

 

My Second Session, Pacific Palisades, California

 

My goal was to improve my recovery rate (I’m sore from time to time) and to lose inches and body fat.   In this session I lost 6 pounds and 3% body fat in JUST 4 WEEKS!    It may not sound like a high amount but I’m not a big person so losing this amount of weight in such a short amount of time was HUGE.    As recommended I was on the same workout routine (since it didn’t need to be altered) and I added in some Glutamine and Green Tea Pills.   I also made a very conscious effort to increase my protein buy 20 grams a day.     I log my food intake diligently so that was never an issue.   I was excited and please with my results!

Next me and Ricki cruised through the store as I asked him various questions on different supplements.   He’s a great couch, very knowledgable and is a good listener.   Along with advice, I was also given a 5K training plan (if I decided to use it), an exercise list with images and instructions, a “Get off the couch” exercise routine to do on commercial breaks, and some great smoothie / protein drink recipes!

My Mom’s Second Session – Portland, Oregon

During my mom’s second session they focused on how her previous supplements for adrenal issues (stress) were working.   After talking with Dr. Carelton  she realized that she was taking them incorrectly and was advised to take 2 in the morning (not just when she became stressed).   She LOVES these pills and says they calm her down immediately!   They have also helped her to focus more at work and to handle the daily ups and downs of her job.

Next they focused on sleep.   The daily stress was keeping her up late at night.  Since she wakes up at 4:30 AM, this was causing a vicious cycle of continually being tired.   Dr. Carelton recommend an all natural sleeping pill by “Enzymatic” called “Sleep Tonight.”   She takes 2 at bed time and sleeps like a baby without waking up (see below).   She’s also not groggy in the morning.  The extra sleep should help her with her next goal of becoming more active.

On the activity front, she took the leap and got a gym membership.  This is actually a big deal because it will allow her to exercise before work in the morning and on weekends with my dad who loves to go swimming.  She hope that with the increased sleep and the calmer demeanor this will mean big things for her weight loss in the future.     She also was advised to increase her calorie intake during the day and to increase her protein intake.

Both of our sessions meant big things for our health with improvements in ways we didn’t anticipate.   We are both looking forward to our final sessions and the information and guidance we will receive from both.
