The vegan lifestyle and healthy eating, continue to become more popular. Due to this, the market continues to expand the choices it offers consumers. Plant based eggs in various products are one example of the push to replace the high fat and cholesterol with healthier vegetable alternatives. A vegan egg substitute is only one example of the ongoing move toward meatless foods for health and or personal reasons.

The American Egg Board didn’t take this vegan trend lying down. There was a misguided effort to convince grocery chains to stop stocking plant-based egg products such as “just mayo” and “just cookie dough” (source). These vegan egg substitute products are a direct challenge to a lot of traditional foods that have been staples of American households for decades. A vegan egg substitute will continue to gain in popularity as long as people continue to switch to vegan diets or turn to healthier alternatives to animal products.

This product uses sorghum as a way to replace and remove traditional eggs. It’s animal free and vegan-friendly.
Revenge of the Vegan
Companies like Hampton Creek, Beyond Meat and other vegan egg substitutes will continue to challenge the traditional meat food industry. Plant-based eggs are used in a number of products from mayonnaise, baked goods and many other recipes that call for eggs. For some people it’s a matter of conscience that they not eat meat or any animal-based products. For others, it has more to do with making healthier choices for themselves and their families. No matter your reasons, plant-based eggs are likely to become a ready alternative to animal foods and your choices will continue to increase.
The owner of Hampton Creek had this to say about the egg industry,
“1.8 trillion eggs are laid, 99% come from these places,” pointing to a photo of chickens in cages, “In America, 1/3 of them end up in mayo, and muffins and things like that, we absolutely want to create a model that ends this system because we’re cheaper and better.”
