Running Apps To Get You Moving

May 29, 2012 by Adria Ali Leave a Comment

There is something addicting about running.  Most people start running as a way to get in shape and change their appearance.  Running Apps are a way to motivate you, help you track your progress, and get your ready for upcoming events.  Here are 3 of the top running apps that were suggested by “Runners Magazine.”

1.) RunKeeper  –  The free version allows you to measure your distance and pace.  If you decide to go with the “elite” subscription ($20 per year) you can track your activity in real time with advanced statistics.  RunKeeper offers fitness classes that consist of social training programs.  You can also connect with them via the web at runkeeper.com wear you can track and measure your fitness.

2.) Endomondo Sports Tracker – This free running app tracks time, distance and links to a huge social community.  The free version allows you to track any outdoor sport including duration, distance, speed and calories. Manualy enter your routes, set up a goal with an audio coach, compete and aim to beat your friends.  Pro version offers you interval programs, progress graphs, and time goals. – The free version is definitely worth it!

3.) Couch-To-5K– This running app is suggested for beginning runners.  It is a 9 week program that helps new runners  get off the couch and do three 30-minute workouts in a week. The free version keeps your time and offers you verbal ques when moving onto the next phase of your workout, all the while listening to your music.  The pro version allows you to track your runs using GPS, a choose of three virtual coaches, and data log through active.com.

On a side note my sister found the Couch-To-5K on her Android.  She said the running app was very user friendly.  She has always wanted to run a 5k but was intimidated and confused about where to begin.  She will be running her first 5K this Saturday at the Portland Starlight Parade and feels confident and 100% prepared.
