The days of simple weight loss are over. The longer I stay in the fitness industry, the more complex it gets! I learn new things everyday; it’s hard to relay the complexity of weight loss to clients.
Low magnesium intake and high sugar intake have been associated with elevated Oxidative Stress in several studies.
(oxidative stress is a state of accelerated cellular damage. Oxidative Stress happens for a number of reasons, chiefly when the body cannot adequately reduce excess Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS).
Elevated oxidative stress is clearly associated with impaired insulin signaling. This means a number of things.
– You will tend to store fat more readily
– You will have a much more difficult time losing weight, particularly if you are low on magnesium intake.
– You are at increased risk for cardiovascular disease (source)
We are constantly changing the way we eat, exercising, and drinking plenty of water to keep the fat away. Obviously, that isn’t enough! The way we use our carbohydrates determines our moods, our body fat percentage, and ultimately our overall health. Who would have thought that one mineral could change all of this!
