Do you typically wander around your local grocery store without a shopping list? If so, this may be the root cause of your troubles for weight loss. Chances are if you’re wandering around the store, you’re grabbing whatever sounds good in that moment. But, the whole point to mindful eating is that you want to have a plan for what you’re going to eat in the coming week. A plan just looks like a shopping list with ingredients to make some healthy recipes. If you go into a store without a plan, you are setting yourself up for failure, especially if you go in hungry. However, if you walk in the store with a list, you will not only save more money, you’ll also walk out feeling more accomplished because you stuck to it to your ingredients.
This tiny victory may not be so tiny after all. A recent study conducted on 1,300 people in Pittsburg has found that people who make grocery lists, weigh less than those who don’t. Researchers “asked more than 1,300 residents about their grocery shopping habits [and]… nearly a third said that they always shopped with a list. Some 17% said they sometimes shopped with a list, while 26% said they never bothered. The group that planned before they shopped weighed less than the other groups. On average, they weighed at least 5 pounds less than those who did more free-range shopping.”
It’s important to keep in mind that making a list is great, but sticking to it is key. But, rest assured, there’s an app for making grocery lists! Try searching for “shopping list” in either the App Store or the Google Play Store on your smart phone.
