I would like to preface this posting by saying, I AM NOT FULL ON VEGAN…but I enjoy Veganism! Laugh, point, call me names like Hippie, Venice rat, blah, blah, blah, but I can’t help but to give in, when the Vegan’s do it right! I have one word for you that you need to know asap in the vegan world: Daiya.
It’s a vegan cheese and it has changed my view on going Vegan. Not that I would ever go completely Vegan, but Daiya has made me consider eating more Vegan options.
My favorite is the mozzarella kind. You’re probably thinking, “Bianca, this scares me. Fake cheese?! Yuck!” Trust me, this “cheese” melts!!!!!!!! It does! I use to love grilled cheeses. Oh, wait! I forgot to mention the two main reasons I’m so passionate about Vegan cheese:
1: My stomach doesn’t like milk, aka I’m lactose intolerant.
2: It’s better for you!
Daiya’s Vegan cheese makes you never long for grilled cheeses ever! Here’s my Super Vegan Grilled Cheese recipe:
*Warm up a skillet, I use Trader Joe’s organic olive oil to grease the pan.
*Add bread once the skillet is a little warm-I love Ezekiel bread, my favorite is the low sodium and it only has 15g of carbs and 4g of protein.
*Then I add about two handfuls of the Daiya Vegan cheese on one side of the bread and add the other “buttery” piece of ezekiel bread.
Fit Tip: Add GARLIC SALT to the outside of the breads! It makes this grilled cheese so gourmet and it’s not as fatty as garlic butter.
Also, make sure to press down on the bread , it takes a little longer to melt this “cheese”, but when it does it’s magical!
Oh and don’t let me forget another great thing about Daiya, it’s only 90 calories AND it has less saturated fat than most cheeses, with only 2g!
So next time you’re at Whole Foods, grab some Daiya and get your grilled cheese on.
Happy Melting,
Bianca
