What are Ugi workouts? It means ‘U got it’ and it is a complete workout system that embraces the concept of functional fitness. All of the workouts are designed around the 15 inch Ugi ball. This ball is based on the classic medicine ball, but is much softer and comes in a range of colors. You perform a series of exercises with the ball that provides cardio, strength and balance work. This is a low-impact exercise that offers intense workouts for beginners and experienced trainees alike.
Ugi Workouts
Core training is a key aspect of Ugi workouts and is accomplished with a range of functional movements that use the ball as resistance or to help you maintain your balance in various positions. The full Ugi program calls for as many as 5, 30 minutes workouts a week (source). However, you can modify the program to suit your needs, performing fewer workouts or shorter routines lasting only 15 minutes.
Five sample exercises performed with the Ugi ball:
- Push-ups with hands on ball
- Knee-ups holding ball
- Lunges holding ball
- Side lunges holding ball
- Squat toss (squat down while holding ball with both hands. As you return to standing position toss the ball in the air and let it drop.)
U Got it
Ugi workouts are designed for all levels of fitness. Ugi balls are available in 6, 8, 10 and 12 pounds. These increments allow you to progressively increase your resistance as your strength and skill improve. You might find that a 6-pound ball is fine for some exercises, but you need a 10-pound ball to make other exercises challenging. A little experimentation will help you find out what work best for you. More and more gyms are offering Ugi workouts, but you can use the program effectively at home as well. The Ugi balls and workout programs are available at sporting goods stores and online. At home or at a gym – U got it!
