Ed “Short Fuse” Heman is a top ranked UFC fighter who has been training hard since high school. He started off as a wrestler in Vancouver, Washington and after high school he moved to Portland, Oregon to continue his training in martial arts. Originally inspired by his father, Ed began his amateur career in 2002. Herman was boosted into the spotlight in the reality show ” The Ultimate Fighter.” After finishing third, he continued climbing the ladder of success in the MMA world. Currently Ed is one of the top 185lbs fighters in the world and is the current IFC middleweight champion in the world.
Fit Tip: What is a typical training day for you?
Ed: Strength and conditioning or sparring in the morning, mid day
grappling and tech and light sparring at night .
Fit Tip: Can you tell us what kinds of foods you eat while your getting ready for an
upcoming fight vs when you are “off season.”
Ed: Ha! Lots of greens, chicken, fish, nuts, lots of water fish oils .
Fit Tip: You have an upcoming fight on Sunday August 14th against Kyle Noke.
What is your mental state when you are preparing for such a huge fight.
Ed: You just have to stay focused and not doubt your self
stay calm but ready go to war and slowly turn that dial up
as the hours count down.
Fit Tip: In 2009, had 2 injuries to your knees and underwent surgery.
Did you feel your career had come to a stand still??? Did you consider
giving up the sport all together?
Ed: I never thought of giving up I stayed as positive as I could
after the second injury the thought crossed my mind that it could
be over but was determined to get back on top .
Fit Tip: What do you consider to be your “money punch?”
Ed: Ha! right upper cut
Fit Tip: Fighting is a mixture of power and stamina. What kinds of
training do you preform to increase your stamina?

Fit Tip: Your fight against Tim Creduer was AMAZING. How do you
feel after your TKO on June 4th of this year?
Ed: I felt great! You cant beat that feeling nothing tops it.
Fit Tip: Every athlete is continuously improving … what improvements
are you making to give you more of an edge in the fighting area?
Ed: I continue to work on all my skills. I have been going back
to my roots and working hard on my wrestling and grappling.
Fit Tip: Who would you like to fight next?
Ed: A top 10 guy doesn’t matter just want a big fight.
Fit Tip: Tell us one thing that the general public DOESN’T know about you.
Ed: I work with 4 – 8 YEAR olds every day at my gym and have
worked with kids my entire career.
Fit Tip: You recently moved from Portland to Colorado and opened
a gym. Was that a dream of yours? How has it impacted your life thus far?
