5 Things Not to Do For Your Fitness New Year’s Resolutions

December 31, 2014 by Adria Ali Leave a Comment

Everyone is making their lists and checking it twice.  Loads of fitness sites are tell you exactly what you SHOULD do to stay on track with your New Year’s Resolutions.  However, we like to be a little different to get our point across and help you get the body you deserve.   Here is our TOP 5 things NOT to do for your fitness New Year’s resolutions.

 fitness tips

1.) Don’t get crazy with numbers

While we all would love to drop huge digits on the scale make sure your numbers a reasonable.   Also factor in some lag time here and there.   Remember that even on “The Biggest Loser,”  week TWO is the week where no one loses weight!   These blips in the weight loss journey are to be expected.   So factor in a couple weeks here and there where you aren’t losing weight.

2.) Don’t be a perfectionist

It’s good to have goals but if you mess up, you shouldn’t throw your scale in the garbage and make a drive over to Krispy Cremes.   Your motto for weight loss should be mess up once then get back on the horse.   Don’t let one mess up ruin your day, week or even month!   Life isn’t perfect and neither are you so don’t let that keep you from your goals.

3.) Don’t rely on others feedback

Measure yourself every 2 weeks (minimum).  Use our handy body measurement chart to help you do this.  ALSO take pictures.  Don’t forget, you see your body everyday in the mirror, it’s very hard to judge results on sight alone.   Take pictures and use them as your motivation and comparisons.

4.) Don’t do gimmicks

An occasional juice cleanse here and there are good ways to flush toxins but don’t depend on those for your weight loss.   Better health comes from doing things daily.  Making better choices on a consistent basis.  Gimmicks can sometimes make people dependent.  This dependency leads to a twisted lack of self esteem.   Be confident in your healthier choices and take ownership that YOU made them not a rule book or a starvation diet.

5.) Don’t Overdo It

We love for people to get out there and exercise BUT we’d prefer that people didn’t go straight from the couch to the cross fit games.   Make sure you are reasonable and you allow your body to change and grow stronger.   What most people forget is that you tendons must grow with your muscles.   However, the tendons grow slower.  So even if your muscle are able to lift 50 pounds that doesn’t mean that you tendons will be able to support your joint.   This then leads to injury.

Stay reasonable with your resolutions.   Be motivated without being unreasonable.  Being consistent is the key to getting and keeping the body that you want.

We hope these were a good change to the normal fitness tips people write about for New Year’s Resolutions.    Pass on the fitness love and share this article with those you care about.
