People say that they can’t lose weight, they don’t have time to exercise, their genetics prevent them from losing that last “10 pounds,” and they just can’t seem to stay on track! I am a firm believer that life is about CHOICES, we can choose to “play the victim” and let life bully us into super sized meals and DRV ridden nights, OR we can roll off the couch and make a change. Fitness is all about mini goals, setting them, accomplishing them, revising them and cycling the effects over and over again. Here’s our advice on how to break out of the victim roll and into the person you KNOW you were meant to be!
-
Stay Present In Your Fitness Goals – So, you set your goals and you are now going through the motions. Wednesday hits, life gets busy and your fitness routine gets pushed to “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Sure it’s ok to rearrange your schedule here and there, but your personal goals just got washed out by life. Staying present means that you think about your goals daily, you plan your day accordingly and you don’t back down when life gets in the way. Make YOU the priority always.
-
Pencil Yourself In – I know it sounds weird, scheduling an appointment for your time. However, it holds a lot of weight mentally when you have actually blocked out time to take care of you! You wouldn’t miss a doctors appointment so take your daily appoitments seriously and think of it as your way to stay healthy, happy, and sane.
-
Do Away With Excuses – Avoid the daily scapegoats. Excuses are a dime a dozen! Vow to never make excuses when it comes to your fitness.
-
Be A FINISHER – No, I’m not referring to your food intake. Finish what you start in life and in the gym. That means, finish EVERY rep of EVERY set that you start. Even if you have to walk away and come back 10 minutes later FINISH WHAT YOU START IN THE GYM! My 13 years as a trainer made things glaringly clear…. people who put themselves second were NOT finishers. Over time, each finished set started to change the mentality of the client. Their self esteem grew, they no longer complained about the last 3 reps or the last 10 minutes of their cardio. Soon, they were completing everything and they were proud that they did.
-
Embrace The Challenge – There is a lot of anger and hate that comes with change. You’re angry that you’ve let yourself get “that out of shape,” and you hate that you have to workout. The Tools (which was featured on Dr. OZ the other day) teaches people to “get out of their rut,” by embracing these feelings. Sounds hoakie right??? To me, it made tons of sense. Here’s what you do when you meet resistance in your fitness goals or your attempts at eating healthy.
-
Bring on the PAIN
-
Love The Pain
-
Realize that the PAIN sets you Free
You may have already known some of these, but print them out and remind yourself daily that YOU are not the victim in your fitness and diet routines. The minute you shed some of the excuses and latch onto your personal power and control, it will change your life!
