Today is THE day for consumerism and all of you will probably at some point today get quite ornery when trying to snatch that last fleece sweater. So, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight a form of exercise that not only works out your body but centers your mind: Yoga.
I LOVE yoga, particularly Vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa is part of the top 3 most popular yoga.
Vinyasa is known as Vinyasa flow or just flow, due to the movement from one pose to another. Vinyasa is very much a work out, mainly an upper body work out, due to the constant movement. Each class changes, so it never gets boring.
Kundalini yoga is based around the “root chakra”. Kundalini is what you would expect from a yoga class, it’s rooted in breathing and doing various strange movements to get in touch with your core.
Bikram yoga is always a yoga class I’ve been interested to try, but the idea of being in a yoga class where it’s 105 degrees with 40% humidity makes me a little nauseous. There are only 16 poses in Bikram so this is actually a good class for beginners if you can stand the heat, literally.
Dr. Timothy McCall, author of Yoga As Medicine and Yoga Editor at Yoga Journal believes that if more people did yoga then our society would be really different in many ways.
“When yoga is practiced with sensitivity and attention, it gradually increases awareness. It awakens your ability to feel what’s happening in your body, heart, and mind. When you become more aware of your body, more aware of your mind, more aware of your breath, you start to notice the consequences of your behavior.”
If that doesn’t help put a myriad of things in perspective, I don’t know what will.
Namaste,
Bianca
