Consistancy- The True Weight Loss Tool

April 9, 2008 by Adria Ali Leave a Comment

People are always looking for the “quick fix,” the newest gadget, and the most recent diet.  No one stopped to think that maybe the real key to maintaining a healthy weight really lies within you.

I work with hundreds of people every year as a personal trainer.  Every session I ask them how their eating is going, if they are taking their supplements, are they doing their cardio, and how their programs are going.  As a trainer, my real job is to keep them consistantly changing for the better.  Many peope can’t seem to fathom paying someone to get them in shape.  So why is it that my clients continue to train?  Trainers KEEP YOU CONSISTANT.  It’s much easier to stay on track when someone is watching after you!!!

So what can YOU do to keep yourself on the straight and narrow???  Here are some of the keys to consistancy in your own routine….

  • Keep a food journal.   You’ve all heard this before, but I’m saying it again!  Writting down your food is essential to your success.
  • Write Down Your Workouts and any activity of the day –  Fitness professionals write down their clients workouts so they know how far the person is advancing.  This is an excellent tool to keep you motivated and challenged.  It also keeps you in tune with your TRUE activity.
  • Pre-measure Your Supplements For The Week  You wouldn’t expect your car to run without oil.  If it did then you would blow up your engine… so why would you expect your body to run without the proper supplementation??  We DO NOT get all the vitamins and minerals from our diet.  YOU MUST supplement in order to workout hard, lose weight and be truly healthy!

  • Measure, measure, measure.  You need to have a starting point so you know how far you’ve come!  If you feel like you aren’t changing (but you’ve been working really hard), take out the measuring tape and measure.  You’ll be shocked to see where you are losing from!  Remember, most of the time, the first place you gain it… is the last place you lose it.
  • Keep Track Of Mile Stones.  It may sound simple, but paying attention to how and where you’re changing is a HUGE DEAL.  It could be something simple .. like getting out of your chair better, or being more flexible, or even sleeping better at night.  Write these in your journal as well.  When you feel tired or discouraged then go back and look at all your positive comments.
  • Set Your Goals.  Set your goals when you start.  Pick little rewards for yourself (that aren’t food related) so that when you reach your goals you feel a sense of accomplishment.

These 6 Points are what trainers use everyday to keep their clients motivated and moving forward.  They will help you achieve true longevity in your fitness and health goals.
