The hugely popular weight loss reality show, “The Biggest Loser,” has begun it’s new season in the new year. However, this time the show wasn’t shot with the ever familiar 24 Hour Fitness logos in the background, on the dumbbells and plastered on various tools such as the bodybugg. A new sponsor, “Planet Fitness,” has inserted there never before seen commercials (at least by me) into the slots of the old advertisements.
While it’s unknown exactly why this took place after so many year on board with 24 Hour Fitness, these new gyms are sweeping the nation in the same way that 24 Hour Fitness did several years ago.

What Is Planet Fitness???
Founded in 1992 in Dover, N.H. , Planet Fitness is now the fastest-growing gym franchise in the United States , and has revolutionized the industry with a combination of extremely low prices and a unique, friendly, and hassle-free environment called the Judgement Free Zone®.
Planet Fitness, which will open its 500th location this month, has 3.5 million members and is poised to become the largest gym operator in the world in 2012. The company opened more than 100 new locations in 2011, its biggest year ever.
Planet Fitness prides itself on giving people an unbeatable value – top-notch facilities at extremely low prices, and an atmosphere that focuses on the needs of occasional or first-time club members, rather than hard-core fitness fanatics. All Planet Fitness gyms feature a huge selection of brand-name cardio and strength equipment, and provide free and unlimited fitness instruction with all memberships.
I’ve been told by a friend and member of Planet Fitness, that if someone is grunting, making tons of noise, or disturbing the atmosphere, they ring a bell and the person is escorted out. I was dying laughing!!! If they were to enforce this at my current gym the bell would be going off every 20-30 minutes!
Trading Up??
The logo of the company says it all, “The Judgement Free Zone,” however the gyms have mixed reviews online. While some love the $10.00 per month rates, others miss their add- ons such as the pools, sauna, Zumba, kickboxing, and other group fitness classes. At such a low rate, you get what you pay for. Gym members will have to decide what features are most important to them as an individual.
If you know someone who’s on a budget, and detests the intimidating atmosphere of a regular gym, send them this fit tip article using the email or print options at the bottom of the page.
