Everyday I go into work is a new experience with new clients, new problems, and new learning experiences for both me and my clients. One of the issues I address A LOT is food. When a new client comes to me for help in either losing weight or gaining muscle; the first question I ask them is “how are your eating habits?” Almost everyone replies “good !” Come to find out later… their version of “good,” wasn’t good at all. Listed below are the Key factors that can ruin your diet, ruin your health, and ruin your self-esteem. Read the list below and keep track of how many pertain to you….. below the list you can score yourself.
The Top 10 Reasons People Are Overweight
-
Not eating frequently enough (every 3- 4 hours)
-
Not enough water (at least 60- 80 oz a day)
-
Too much Salt In Your Diet
-
Dependence on Sugar and Artificial Sweetners (weight gain, weight gain, weight gain… need I say more?)
-
FAT – ALWAYS WAY OFF THE CHARTS!
-
Carbs late at night (If you want to wear your food in the morning keep eating this way)
-
Their biggest meal is dinner (Dinner should be the smallest meal- breakfast the heaviest)
-
In-balance in protein, to fat, to carb ratio is off . ( Atkins is out people you must have carbs to workout and to live)
-
Not enough veggies and fruits(people are still on the meat and potato diets)
-
Portions are non existent (thanks to the “super size” menu- all of America forget what a REAL portion is!)
Scoring:
1-2 checked – Not bad!!!! Chances are, you aren’t too overweight BUT you are fighting to get the last 5 – 10 pounds of weight off. Change those things you checked and watch as the fat melts away!
3-4 Checked –Ok, so your having a little bit of trouble in your diet. Maybe it’s time for you to get serious! You’ve already made some kind of commitment to stay healthy if you only missed 3-4. Increase your days working out … this will make you more committed to your goal. The results will be showing in no time!
5-6 Checked – Whoops! You are on a down hill slide right into plus size clothes. Focus on something positive like a picture of when you were healthy, happy and thin. This extra motivation might be just what you need to get you back on track!
7-8 Checked – It’s time for a change!!!! Nothing is worse then being tired, overweight, and down on yourself. Take baby steps. Change your eating one thing at a time. Even that one thing will make a difference in how you look, feel, and respond to the worlds stresses. Start doing little things to increase your activity such as, taking the stair, parking far away, and moving more at home.
9-10 Checked – OUCH. You Must change now!!!! You know it’s time to get moving and eating healthy. If you can’t seem to motivate yourself, then maybe it’s time to hire some help. Get a personal trainer… they will do the motivating for you.
Take these tips to heart. Everyone can benefit from a little change in their lives.
