The focus of any weight loss plan is always to burn more calories then your consume. While this basic law is true, many people forget that other factors can influence how bright your “metabolism fire” burns . Think of a fireplace without wood in it. Without wood the fire can not be started. The wood in this case is food! The fire is your metabolism. While about 50% of the population actually eats breakfast, the other half could go all the way to lunch without a bite.
Here’s a common conversation that takes place between a trainer and a client about breakfast..
Trainer: What do you eat for breakfast?
Client: Nothing, I’m too busy trying to get out the door and I have trouble eating in the morning. I’m just not hungry.
Trainer: Breafast is essential to starting up your metabolism for the day. Without eating you are actually slowing down your calorie burning, making it even harder for you to lose.
Client: Wow, I had no idea! However, when I eat breakfast it tends to make me sick. If I force it then it seems like I’m hungry all day.
Trainer: If you can’t eat solid foods in the morning because it upsets your stomach, then start with a liquid. A protein shake with some fruit blended in it is a great option. If you are running late, try a yogurt. The reason you feel as though you are MORE hungry when you eat breakfast is because you are burning more calories.
Client: Ok, that makes sense I will work on eating breakfast.
Sounds strikingly familiar right??? The fire of your metabolism always burns the brightest when it’s given fuel to burn. Make sure that the foods you are eating for breakfast are lean, have a decent amount of carbs, and a small amount of fat. Keep in mind that if you add in breakfast, you can’t gorge on dinner like most. You must control your night time eating and eat your calories through out the day with the smallest amount at night.
