Muscle spasms can be a pain, literally! They wake people from their restful sleep, they stop your workouts, and they always seems to come at inopportune times. One of my good friends and client; told me about this great trick.
Keep a bottle of tonic water in your cupboard or fridge. When muscle cramps arise drink the tonic water. This should relieve your tense muscles fast. Other users say to drink it on a regular basis to keep muscle cramps away.
Tonic water contains quinine sulfate. In the past, this active ingredient was prescribed. However, the FDA banned this pill due to rare cases where people developed side affects. Keep in mind, the dosage of the pill was much higher then the dose in tonic water and the side affects were rare.
Although tonic water is a “quick fix” for muscle cramps it doesn’t get rid of the root of the problem. In most cases muscle spasms are merely tight muscles. To rid yourself of spasms you must foam roll (deep tissue stretching) and stretch. Without getting rid of the knots in your muscles you are doomed to have recurring spasms.
