“I Can Make You Thin” – The New TLC Program

It seems as though the huge increase in obesity in America has changed TV!  Now new programs about weight and diet are springing up all over.  The newest show is called “I Can Make You Thin.”  This eye catching title is enough to get your attention even when you are falling asleep at 11 o’clock at night (much like I was when I first saw it).  Paul Mckenna is the host and writer of the Book and show.  His book and techniques have been used in the UK for years.  Now he’s decided to bring them to the United states.  His claim to fame is a method called the “tapping technique,” which is used to control hungry cravings and emotional eating.  Here is how it works…..

 HIS 4 GOLDEN RULES

1. When You Are Hungry, Eat

(never go into the red areas)

2. Eat What You Want, Not What You Think You Should

3. Eat Consciously And Enjoy Every Mouthful

4. When You Think You Are Full, Stop Eating

Sounds simple right???  Well not everyone can eat “what they want” and stop when then “feel full.”  SO, just in case, he’s added the tapping techniqueto overcome emtional eating that allows you to control your hunger.

When I first saw the show I thought this technique was just a way to distract yourself from your desire for food.  However, McKenna claims that this technique is a combination of Psychological techniques mixed with tapping pressure points on your body.  If the tapping doesn’t work the first time, then you must repeat it UNTIL your craving OR emotion subside.  Here is a clip from his show…… if you don’t feel like watching the whole clip then fast-forward to the 6 minute mark to watch the TAPPING TECHNIQUE.

If you’re like me, then you watched it with a skeptical eye.  Upon trying the technique myself, I thought it worked to a point.  I’ll have to try it the next time I am REALLY craving something.  If you yourself have had success with this technique, then I would LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!  Write into the site and post a comment so others can hear your views!

I have been watching the program since the beginning, and while i'm not definately 100% making sure that I am following everything Paul is saying, I have noticed that I am getting fuller faster without eating as much. And the tapping has helped me emotionally, because I am an emotional eater. Mainly what I have noticed is it destracts me from my desire to eat because I'm upset or bored or whatever emotion I am going through and I forget what I wanted in the first place. I haven't been weighing myself because I'm afraid that there will be no change or even worse I gained. I've been judging on how I feel and how my clothes fit. I'm just, I guess, afraid of failure and then the following emotioanl issues that will perpetuate my previous eating habit and cycles. The best thing is I'm having a lot of fun playing on the floor with my two beautyiful children.

I think the important part about the tapping thing is that you are doing something strange between the time when you first feel the craving, and when you actually give into the craving. That little time can be enough to distract some people. The mind is a very powerful thing, and when you break its focus from something, it can make a huge difference. I just wrote a post about that show too. I think his rules are genious in their simplicity.
