While roaming the isles at my favorite grocery store (Henry’s Market) I found a great product! Individually packed, frozen pouches of Acai berry smoothie mix. There were two different type one with a little bit of sugar and one without. These smoothie packets reminded me of my favorite drink at Jamba Juice which uses this fruit to make a low calorie smoothie packed full of antioxidants. I then tried to replicate the drink at home in a lower calorie, higher protein version.
Low Calorie Acai Berry Smoothie
* 1 Scoop of your favorite low carb (less then 10 carbs per serving) Protein shake
* 1/4 – 1/2 cup of milk (any type of milk, rice milk, almond milk, hemp milk etc.)
* 1 scoop of ice (for a thicker version)
* 1/2 cup of water
* Sweetener (if need) – try to choose one that won’t add calories like *Stevia plus / Splenda etc.
~ Blend the ingredients to the consistency that appeals to you.
The Jamba Juice Acai Berry Smoothie
* The main difference between this version and the low calorie version is the Sherbet. The ice cream adds extra carbs and extra sugar.
* 1 Scoop of your favorite low carb (less then 10 carbs per serving) Protein shake
* 1/4 – 1/2 cup of milk (any type of milk, rice milk, almond milk, hemp milk etc.)
* 1 scoop of ice (for a thicker version)
* 1/2 Sherbet Ice cream
* 1/2 cup of water
* Sweetener (if need) – try to choose one that won’t add calories like *Stevia plus / Splenda etc.
~ Blend the ingredients to the consistency that appeals to you.
If you want to turn this into an even more powerful shake you can add liquid vitamins to it as well as branch chain amino acids.
You don’t need to spend 5 dollars of your hard earned money to get a quality smoothie! Mix them at home and save your money for things that really matter!
