How can I take the coconut oil? I tried the pills then I read that you would have to take 29 pills a day to get the recommended amount of oil. I cannot swallow the lard form of the oil without gagging. I read if you melt it it kills of all of the nutritional properties. Can you help me?!

Jen, I like to eat it in the form of the coconut butter. You can add it to recipes, but I can eat the butter in it's plain form or melted on toast as a treat. The coconut oil is hard to swallow plain, I don't blame you for gagging. The Oil can also be added to recipes but you will not kill the nutritional properties. It can with stand a decent amount of heath heat. It's "smoke point" is 350 degrees. Coconut oil is not destroyed by heat. The medium chain fatty acids are very resistant to heat and retain their MCFA's. Coconut oil is one of the best and safest oils to use in cooking. But why should you cook with it? Because of the fact that coconut oil is filled with saturated fats, it’s not susceptible to the same heat damage that vegetable oils filled with Omega 6 fatty acids are susceptible to. On our pinterest page, many people commented that they like to add it to whole grain waffles/pancakes. I hope this helped!! PLease let me know if you have more questions and thank you for writing in! Coconut oil is more stable under heat than olive oil, therefore it retains its nutritional properties.

@jenn. You can melt it by putting the tub of oil in hot water. it doesnt take away any of the goodness because it's not getting hot enough. it melts it really fast too. once it's melted you can put it in peanut butter or even on salads with/as a salad dressing. you can pretty much use coconut oil for anything.

Carla, I think this varies for everyone based on how much fat they are taking in from other sources. I have found that 1-2 tablespoons per day is best for me. If you are eating low fat (out side fats) then you can afford to have 2. If you are not watching your other fats and just thought you would throw this in, then I would recommend 1.
