Littered upon the shelves of various book shelves across the world are billions of diet books. Now, the web provides electronic versions and websites filled with advice on how to lose weight. This information is filled with “tricks, rules, and guidelines to help you become another success story. I, myself have read tons of diet books. I analyse and process the details and gauge whether the aspects of the book will lead to weight loss. However one thing always seems to be missing.
Weight loss isn’t just about “rules and guidelines.” To have true success, you must also change your frame of mind and your thought patterns. Among the Headlines that grace the cover of magazines focused on weight loss, you will find head lines that read “Sara Lost 160 pounds Read How She Did It!” After flipping to the page, you see that she changed her eating and began to exercise. No where in there did it talk about “Sara’s” mental journey.
Starting a new diet routine can be very scary to people who have a lot of weight to lose. They can be filled with fear, anxiety, and self doubt. These are feelings of past failed attempts or attempts that were successful until they gained the weight back. To be physically fit, you must also be MENTALLY FIT. Mental fitness is a pattern of thinking that leads you to success and washes away the negative thoughts that plague and consume your everyday life.
Fit Tips
- Replace your negative thoughts – No matter how dumb you feel you must counter act the bad thoughts with good thoughts. Every time you have a negative thought say 1 good thing about yourself (in your head or aloud) 10 times.
- Don’t be a prisoner of your past – The past is the gone and the future is yet to come. If you let your past diet attempts control your future you will never have the metal fitness to be successful.
- One day at a time – To win a race you must take one step at a time. To win the weight loss war you must take baby steps to your goal.
- Allow for mistakes – No one is perfect, allow yourself to “fall down,” then pick yourself right back up. Success is a combination of many mistakes that offer learning experiences for your future.
While “Mental Fitness,” is a great way to lose weight, it’s also a way to improve ever aspect of your life. People don’t suddenly become happy when then lose 100 pounds, they are happy because they have changed the way they view themselves and the world around them. Be your own “biggest fan” to find success in life and in health!
