The summer are about fun in the sun and showing off the body you’ve been covering all year long! These seasonal summer foods are cheap (because they are in season) and low in carbs, fat and calories. Add them to your shopping list, work them into meals and make the most of your budget!
Watermelon
Watermelon is low in carbs and calories. It’s also VERY hydrating. One slice of watermelon is equal to drinking a glass of water! This could be a great treat / trick to keep your kids hydrated during the summer months. Trainer tip: avoid the butter and spray them with spray olive oil, add a some of your favorite garlic, onion and herb spices!
Grapefruit
If you love the tangy taste of grapefruit then you’ll love what it may be doing for your figure. One serving of this classic weight loss food is 65 calories, and packed full of vitamin A and C.
Trainer Tip: In a University of Arizona study, people who ate half a grapefruit before every meal dropped an inch from their waists (source).
Tomatoes
Add some color to your meals along with 2 grams of fiber. Only 7 carbs and tons of cancer fighting lycopene. One serving is only 33 calories!
Berries
Berries are the perfect fitness food. They are low in calories, packed full of cancer fighting agents, filled with beauty enhancing vitamins and high in fiber. These should be your GO TO fruit of choice when you want something sweet without all the carbs and calories.
Trainer Tip: One cup of strawberries contains more vitamin C then an Orange, 7 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fiber!
Grapes
Whether they are frozen, fresh or blended in a smoothy. Grapes make a great addition to any summer meal. 3/4 cup of grapes have no fat, no cholesterol, and virtually no sodium.
